For us in the Post Apocalyptic Club, these events were not unexpected, in fact we predicted them five years ago.  The events are simply the consequence of infinite growth in a finite world.  With seven billion people and counting, sooner or later we will breach the limits of our finite planet and society will collapse.  Only this may happen far sooner than most people realise.
